Trump, Biden, and God’s Plans: Laughing at the Time to Come

During a time when many are crying at the times to come, that might sound like a very strange title. But I want to encourage you from Scripture today, friend. I know many of us are DIScouraged right now with the results (or lack of results) of the election here in the US. Corruption seems rampant on all sides (well, basically on one side, but what I mean is that it’s rampant) and we feel helpless to stop it. We look at what the future may hold for us and we wonder just why God is allowing this?

Well, we could discuss that question for quite a while I think. In many ways, I believe our nation is ripe for judgment. We have turned our backs on God, relying on man instead. We have murdered our children in the womb; indulged in immorality; and basically been lovers of ourselves and the world, all while thinking we could get away with it and avoid any consequences. Even many within the church are guilty of these sins and unwilling to truly repent.

We have been comfortable.

Who Is To Blame?

The Bible says that “judgment begins in the house of the Lord.” We have not been discipling our children, sharing the Gospel with the lost world, and fasting and praying for revival like we should, and the culture has deteriorated as a result. We have enjoyed the blessings handed down to us from previous God-fearing generations, and complacently lived in our own comfortable bubbles. We have a come to rely on our government to save and care for us, rather than God.

I believe every trial is an opportunity to learn and grow, and that alone should encourage us! The Lord will not waste this trial. So I want to share this verse with you that the Lord brought to my mind earlier today:

“Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.”

– Proverbs 31:25

But how can we live in this way? How can we trust in the Lord in such a carefree way when the future seems so dark?

Perhaps many of us need to repent of putting our faith and trust in the governing authorities rather than God. Perhaps we have forgotten that “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will” (Prov. 21:1). Perhaps we have forgotten that the “Proverbs 31 woman” does not laugh alone…

“He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.

Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,

‘As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.’”

Psalm 2:4-6

“The wicked plots against the righteous
and gnashes his teeth at him,
but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he sees that his day is coming.

The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose way is upright;
their sword shall enter their own heart,
and their bows shall be broken.”

Psalm 37:12-15

Laughing Like God

And if God can laugh, then so can we!

I want to encourage you to meditate and pray into these truths today. (Read both those entire chapters in Psalms). Do you believe God is on the throne and in control of the entire universe? Or do you fret at the thought of who is sitting on the earthly “thrones”?

I know this is especially hard for those who have come from other countries where they experienced Communism and socialism first-hand and know the true evils of those systems…those who have tasted freedom and fear going back to slavery again. I have several personal friends who this applies to!

But again, we must trust that God will use whatever happens for His glory, and above all, let’s pray for revival in this nation and for a return to the foundation of Christianity both in individual lives and as a nation!

A Challenge

Let’s be like the Proverbs 31 woman. Let’s clothe ourselves in strength and dignity and laugh at the days to come, knowing who is really on the Throne, and that He is also laughing at the schemes of man. ❤️

Here are some practical tips:

  • Pray – Officially, the election is not yet over and there are many lawsuits being filed for election fraud. Fast and pray in faith for justice and the true will of the people to be done! Ask the Lord to give you His peace, whatever the ultimate outcome, and to help you fully trust in Him.
  • Meditate – Listen to and memorize Scripture. Print out verses and put them around where you will see them and can mediate on the truth. A great tool to help is the coloring sheets below! This Praying the Word Prayer Journal is also helpful.
  • Praise – Praise music confuses the enemy! Listen to your favorite praise and worship music and sing along with it. A gratitude journal can also be a helpful way of focusing your heart on thankfulness to God.
